Qualifications

Minimum requirements for membership in Alpha Epsilon Lambda include: 1) completion of at least 12 credit hours as a degree-seeking student in a graduate program, 2) Academic Member: a grade point average placing the student in the top 35% of campus graduate students, and 3) Leadership Member: a record of elected leadership in graduate student organizations.

There are three categories of AEL student membership at the campus chapter level.

ACADEMIC MEMBER
Academic Members must possess a record of academic accomplishment placing the applicant in the top 35% of campus graduate students, either by GPA or research publications accomplishments certified by a faculty member. Academic Members are not eligible to serve as a chapter president, vice president or member applications review committee member.

LEADERSHIP MEMBER

Leadership Members must possess a record of accomplishment as an elected officer of a campuswide, college, or departmental graduate student organization. For campuses with few graduate student organizations, other leadership qualifications may qualify. Leadership Member candidates nominated by a chapter are subject to AEL HQ review and approval. Leadership members are eligible to serve as a chapter president, vice president or membership applications review committee member.

ACADEMIC & LEADERSHIP MEMBER
Academic & Leadership Members meet both the criteria for Academic Member and Leadership member.

AEL HQ Membership Awards
The AEL national officer awards additional membership levels: National Member, International Member, Fellow, Governing Member, and Honorary Member are distinctions awarded by Alpha Epsilon Lambda.
